Short story contest for Indian women launched
IANS - 11/29/2006

New Delhi, Nov 28 (IANS) Renowned social activist and Nobel peace laureate Shirin Ebadi has launched a short story contest for Indian women here.

The contest by the Indian Women's Press Corps (IWPC) and Roli Books is on the theme 'Mother' and was inaugurated by Ebadi at the IWPC office Monday.

It is open to all Indian women in India and abroad. Non-resident Indian women, who still carry Indian passports, may also apply.

"The objective of the contest is to reward and recognise Indian women to write about themselves, their very full lives and experiences," an IWPC press release stated.

The best three entries will get prize money worth Rs.50,000, Rs.30,000 and Rs.20,000 respectively.

Roli Books will later publish the best 12 stories in the form of a manuscript. Noted writer and journalist Khushwant Singh will be the chairman of the jury.
