*KITAB* – AN UNIQUE EXPLORATION OF MERGING CULTUR
- 4/2/2006
Kitab will be the first ever festival to provide serious and thought-provoking debate with a chic and sexy edge.

Eminent participants include *Tarun Tejpal*, author and journalist, Deborah Moggach, author, *Amit Chaudhuri*, novelist, *Rana Dasgupta*, novelist,*Lionel Shriver *, winner of the 2005 Orange Fiction Prize, *Nadeem Aslam*, novelist, *Clare Short*, MP, *William Dalrymple*, historian and writer, *Shashi Tharoor*, UN Under Secretary-General (Communications) and author, *Liz Calder,*Bloomsbury Publisher, *Boyd Tonkin*, Literary Editor of the Independent and *Catherine Lockerbie*, Director of the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

Kitab will take place at various venues across *New Delhi* from *7-9 April 2006* and its second chapter will be held in London later this year. This literary extravaganza promises to bring together the best of British and Indian publishing, literature and media. Internationally-renowned artists will also raise funds for the *'Make Poverty History'* campaign at Kitab. Allan Jenkins, Observer Magazine Editor, comments that the sub-continent has supplied many of the English language's greatest writers -- Rushdie, Seth, Mistry and Roy. "There are of course many more waiting in the wings," he adds. "A festival that celebrates and strengthens these ties is to be supported and applauded."

Kitab will not only act as fertile ground for cultural dialogues, but will also provide a forum for political, social and business interests in India's cosmopolitan capital.
